UVU Monitoring Snowstorm 2/2/2020

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We are closely monitoring weather conditions and the possible impact on tomorrow’s schedule. We will make our final decision for all campuses tomorrow, Feb. 3, by 6 a.m. and post that decision on all UVU social media channels, uvu.edu, uvu.info, and send via email. 

Weather and road situations will be different depending on where you live. Please use caution when traveling. All University employees should keep their supervisors apprised of their circumstances. 

The Utah Highway Patrol has advised drivers to stay off roads if their vehicles do not have decent tread. They encourage everyone to watch out for emergency lights on the road, move to the side if you are caught in a fender bender, and make sure your windshield wipers are in good condition.

UVU DRILL EXERCISE COMPLETED

UVU DRILL EXERCISE: The emergency response training in the Browning Administration Building has concluded.

We thank the police departments from UVU, Orem, and Provo, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, local emergency management, hospital staff, and Life Flight for participating.

UVU DRILL EXERCISE ON 4/26/19

DRILL EXERCISE: In an ongoing effort to prepare for emergencies, UVU is hosting an emergency response exercise with community agencies and organizations today from 1-5 p.m. You may see and hear first responder vehicles in front of and around the Browning Administration Building. This is a practice drill. There is no reason for concern. We recommend you go about your regular schedule and activities.

Our counseling center and peer counselors are available to anyone who might be triggered by the sounds and sights associated with this training exercise. Appointments can be made by calling 801-863-8876 or visiting the Counseling Center website.

Great Utah ShakeOut Earthquake Drill 2019

UVU is participating in the annual statewide Great ShakeOut earthquake exercise Thursday morning at 10:15. In the case of an earthquake or any other type of emergency, this website would provide additional information from UVU as needed. This is a site hosted off campus, and it creates redundancy with campus computing resources and websites in the case that they are offline, destroyed, or unavailable. It also becomes a principal location for these types of communications that people can count on to always work and be the “go-to” place.

Our messaging system will send out communications by email and text at 10:15 a.m. If you do not receive these communications, please check your opt-in settings at https://my.uvu.edu/home/detached.html?name=text-notifications

Remember during the Great ShakeOut to practice these actions: drop, cover, and hang on. Dropping to the floor prevents falls, covering prevents injuries from plummeting objects, and hanging on maintains those protective measures.
