Earthquake on campus (TEST 2)

A 6.7 magnitude earthquake occurred at 10:15 a.m. this morning. (THIS UPDATE IS ONLY A TEST. IT'S PART OF THE "GREAT UTAH SHAKEOUT" EARTHQUAKE DRILL.) The epicenter was in north Utah County. Classes have been canceled and staff, faculty and students are encouraged to leave the campus as quickly as possible. Those who are injured are still being attended to. If students are unable to stay in their apartments, there are a couple of shelters being set up on campus to accommodate them. The locations will be posted on this site shortly.

The is an exercise message:  Had this been a real earthquake additional information could be accessed by looking at this website.  Thanks to the building marshalls for working with their floor captains to determine extent of damage to the buildings and possible injuries.  For your information the Building Marshalls will not be reporting information to a central location which will be reported to Orem City and Utah County Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  Again thanks for your participation today.,  This goes a long way in helping the University prepare for such events.

Earthquake on campus (TEST 1)

There has been an earthquake in our general area. (THIS UPDATE IS ONLY A TEST. IT'S PART OF THE "GREAT UTAH SHAKEOUT" EARTHQUAKE DRILL.) It is unclear at this time how large it was or where the epicenter was. Reports are coming in from across the campus that power has been lost and water is not available. We know there are some injuries and the campus EMS along with Orem Paramedics will be helping them out.

Students, staff and faculty: Classes are canceled for the rest of the day. An Emergency Operations Center is activating and additional information will be coming out. Please stay tuned as we get organized and help those who are hurt or injured.

The Great Utah ShakeOut Earthquake Drill

On Wednesday, April 17, UVU campus will be participating in the Great Utah ShakeOut earthquake drill. The fire alarm system will be used to simulate the earthquake, but you should not evacuate. All students, faculty and staff are expected to participate — just follow the mantra, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On." The focus for UVU this year is to test communication methods. This will include the mass communications system that sends a text message to those who have signed up for Opt-In, messaging on the main hallway monitors, emails and computer screens. New this year will be the testing of uvu.info, which is specifically dedicated to updating the UVU community with instructions and information following an emergency incident. Also new this year, we'll be testing the radios recently given to the building marshals, who will perform a quick assessment on buildings and people after the earthquake and report their findings. This information will ultimately be shared with the Utah County Emergency Operations Center.
